The 'Unreturning Theatre Trip'

Mon 28 Jan 2019

On the 23rd January, the Y10 and Y11 BTEC Acting classes travelled up to the Theatre Royal; Stratford East, to watch a theatre piece by Frantic Assembly (a physical theatre company we are studying).

Frantic Assembly performed ‘The Unreturning’ and the production offered many frantic techniques such as; various lifts, hymns hands, standing chair duets, round by through etc.  The cast included four men; jonnie Riordan, Kieton Saunders-Browne, Joe Layton and Jared Garfield, who acted as various characters whilst portraying 3 men’s war stories which were set at different times (1918, 2013, 2026).  The storyline followed two of the men who experienced mental health after the war; one experiencing PTSD and the other, shell shock.  The third man had fled to Norway so as not to fight in the war but was making his way back to England as had lost his brother.  Overall in the performance the audience witnessed tragic stories of young men in the war and the effects it had on them.  In conclusion, the audience inferred that the soldier from 1918 was the most looked after on his return from the war and as a result started his life over when he had a baby.  The others stories did not end so well.

We thoroughly enjoyed the performance and it was great to see the company we are studying live!
