成品视频 departs for Cambodia in latest Camps International expedition.

Mon 30 Sep 2019

Students from the 成品视频 flew out to Cambodia for the latest month-long Camps International expedition this past July. The trip, financed by students who have fundraised costs over the previous two years, gives the students the opportunity to go to the other side of the world and get involved in community based project work, helping out local areas, whilst also getting to visit and experience some of the best sights and culture that Cambodia has to offer.

The main aim and focus of the trip is built around the project work, with expedition students going into local communities to assist projects identified by the local people as being in urgent need, such as schools, housing and toilet systems. For three weeks of the trip, the students are in camps throughout the country, living directly in and amongst the communities they are there to help to deliver projects that the people urgently require.

In the final week, the students are also lucky in that they get to complete their PADI Open Water Scuba Diving qualification at the beautiful Koh Rong Samloem island, as well as sampling city life by taking in the religious sites and markets of Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. Some of the undoubted highlights of the trip included getting to visit Angkor Wat, one of the largest and oldest religious monuments in the world, and visiting the S-21 Prison and Killing Fields, where museums and memorials are in place to remember those who suffered during the Khmer Rouge genocide.

Teacher Callum Ridgway said, ‘This is the third trip of this kind run by the school with Camps International after previous visits to Peru and Borneo, and again the trip was a brilliant success for all students involved. They really embraced the different culture and made sure that they got the most of the trip that they possibly could, be that working hard to the benefit of the community they were in or taking in the sights and history around the religious sites and temples.’

Fundraising is well underway with the next Camps International expedition already booked in – 29 students off to Costa Rica during the Summer of 2021 – so watch this space for any fundraising activities around school in the coming weeks/months.
